TORONTO | Epocrates, an American company that
provides communication solutions for clinicians through mobile
devices, has expanded its Web-based drug index to Canada, Germany,
Spain and the United Kingdom.
Each localized index includes generic and brand
name drugs that link to the corresponding monographs for the
U.S.-based drug content and provides information about dosages,
indications and drug interactions.
Physicians already using an Epocrates mobile
product can connect their personal digital assistant (PDA) to their
computer, sign into their account, edit their profile and select a
localized index. The Web site will automatically update the index to
the mobile device.
New users can download the Epocrates Rx drug
reference for free or, for different prices, get premium products.
Instant access
Dr. Michael Golbey, a family physician in
Kelowna, B.C., said he uses his drug index several times a day.
"You have this device in your pocket so wherever
I am, I have instant access to the information. It's really
point-of-care information."
